Activity: I Can Spell My Name!

Goal: Recognize the Beginning Letters in Familiar Words

Let's Get Started:
1. Place the chart or board at the children’s eye level or on a table.

2. Allow each child to spell his name by choosing the appropriate letters from the pockets and placing them on the table, floor or at the top of the magnetic board/chart.

3. For a child just beginning to learn to spell his names, try having the child search for only beginning letter of his name. Later, try placing only the letters of the child’s name in random order on the chart or board. Have the child rearrange the letters to spell his name.

If using POCET, this Activity correlates to Developmental Guideline: LT 17 Recognizes the Beginning Letters in Familiar Words .
