| Activity: Home to School Board/Setting up the Home to School Board |
| Goal: Displays Confidence and Independent in a School Setting. |
| |
 |
Let's Get Started: 1. Prepare a poster board with a home shape on one side and the school shape on the other.
2. Cut a people shape out for each child in the class.
• Let each child decorate his own People Shape using photos, markers, crayons, paints and collage materials.
• Write the child’s name on his people shape.
• Place a Velcro dot on the back of each shape.
**Note: Each teacher should also create her own People Shape to participate in the Home to School Board activity.
3. Post the chart at a height reachable by all the children.
4. Place each child’s completed People Shape on the Home side of the Home to School Board.
5. Teach each child the following procedure:
• When the child arrives at school, she will take her People Shape off the Home side of the banner and place in on the SchoolL side.
• When the child leaves school for the day, she will take her People Shape from the School side and place it back on the Home side.
6. Make sure that there are specific steps to the routine of using the Home to School Board. For example, when leaving school for the day, each child moves his/her People Shape to the Home side prior to picking up his/her backpack. Create a specific time at the end of the day for moving the shapes. This does not work well as a random activity. Repeat the process when the children arrive at school. |
