Activity: Decodable Books
Materials Needed:
A blank book or booklet for each child
Alphabet stamps
Stamp pads
Let’s Get Started:
1. Help each child create her own decodable book. Depending on the developmental reading level of the child, encourage her to create a storybook that she can read.
2. Using alphabet stamps and a blank booklet, encourage the child to create a short story, using words that she can sound out and decode.
3. This activity can also be done when the group is concentrating on a certain vowel sound or word chunk. If focusing on a word chunk, place a list of words to help the child create a story.
