Emergent Mathematics 24 - 30 months
Toddlers love to explore and begin the process of matching items as well as understanding terms such as, "under," "on top of," and "beside." Many children during the toddler years also begin to count items and identify attributes, such as color differences. Caregivers can provide many activities and experiences to enhance this development of curiosity and understand the world.

 
Geometric, Spatial Sense and Numbers
Begins to understand spatial relationships.
The child understands position words such as over, under, beside, etc. (EM5)

    Begins to match and sort colors and like items. The child can recognize simple attributes, such as color and size, and begins to match two or three items that have the same attributes. (EM6)
