Emergent Physical Health & Safety Birth - 6 months
Motor skill development begins to grow from the very moment of birth. The child begins to hold his up head, smile, reach with his arms and eventually sits, stands and walks. The caregiver can provide a safe and encouraging environment for the infant to explore and develop these very important motor skills.

 
Motor Skills
Turns head and makes eye contact.
The child begins to make eye contact and turns her head to look around or toward noises. (EP1)

    Smiles. The child begins to smile to express happiness or in recognition of a familiar face and/or voice. (EP2)

    Reaches and supports upper body with arms. The child begins to reach for objects. When the child is on his stomach, he begins to support upper body with arms (EP3)
  • Tummy Time

    Attempts to pull up and bounces in adult lap. The child begins to pull herself up to a standing position and begins to bounce in an adult's lap. (EP4)
