Emergent Social and Emotional 6 - 12 months
From the time that the infant first engages in social interaction with another individual, social and emotional skills begin to be established. The infant will express different emotions depending on how the child feels and or express the needs for comfort. The infant begins to recognize familiar people at an early age and becomes a mirror of the emotions around him. Thus begins social interactions with others.

 
Self Concept and Self Control
Develops own patterns for basic needs.
The child begins to feed self, shows interest in personal clothing, and remembers where familiar items are kept. (EE2)

    Expresses a variety of emotions. The child laughs, cries and begins to concentrate on tasks. The child uses facial expressions and gestures to express feelings. (EE3)
