Letter of the Week

An Activity for Preschoolers
Many teachers used to teach the letter of the week in their preschool or kindergarten program. Because of the importance of letter identification, this activity should be modified.
Goals
To identify at least 10 letters of the alphabet

Before You Start
No Preparation Required
Let's Begin
1. Choose a letter on which to concentrate for the week and create activities that will allow the child to identify that letter.

2. “Looking around the room, can you tell me how many letter “Bs” you see?” (Note: It is not necessary for the child to know the sound at this point. Letter recognition is a predictor of reading success.)
Furthermore
Create a letter "piggy bank". After reviewing the letter of the day, create a cutout of the letter and deposit it into your letter piggy bank until you collect all of the letters of the alphabet. Review the letters in the piggy bank regularly, choosing one child to draw from the piggy bank each day, and talk about some of the words they learned that start with that letter.
